MFJ CUB

The MFJ cub is a CW only monoband qrp radio producing arouns 1.5 -2.5 watts depending on band. They can be bought built or as a "kit". The kit isn't really a kit as it only requires the builder to finish the rig off. Alignment and build instructions are all very clear and well laid out.

Above is my 40m cub. The speaker cover on the top case is not part of the kit.I made a bit of a mess drilling the holes for the internal speaker i fitted so this just made it look a bit neater. The radio has no internal keyer so must be used with a straight key or an electronic keyer. It covers all of the cw section of the band and allows me to listen to ssb sigs further up the band to around 7.060-70 ish. RX semms very good and it picks lots of signals up with ease. It does suffer slightly with freq drift from cold but 10 mins just sat before use solved this.

There's not a lot of bad points to this little radio, it does what its supposed to and in my opinion does it well. Power consumption is small and with a small battery and a dipole along with a small key you can have yourself a real portable and fun little station. This radio is capable of standing toe to toe with much bigger and " better " rados costing many times more . Give it a chance to a decent antenna and you can't help but make contacts.
